Nanny not Manny: Childcare Gender Discrimination Revealed in EQSQ.com Survey
A recent survey reveals a clear gender bias for work in the childcare industry, according to a Weekly Whims column on EQSQ.com. The survey found that only 54 percent of respondents would employ a male nanny (manny) to care for their children, while over 90 percent would employ a female nanny. Studies show that gender preference for certain career fields can be related to preferences and capabilities beyond gender, including a person's EQ (Empathizing Quotient) or SQ (Systemizing Quotient). EQSQ.com provides tests that can determine EQ and SQ scores, which can help all people regardless of gender make education and career choices. (PRWeb) January 31, 2007 -- A recent survey revealed that over 90 percent of respondents would employ a female nanny to care for their children, while only 54 percent would employ a male nanny (manny). The survey results were reported in a Weekly Whims column on EQSQ.com, an online personality test resource for education and career choices, and suggest that preference for certain career fields can be related to a person's EQ (Empathizing Quotient) or SQ (Systemizing Quotient) rather than their gender. EQSQ.com provides tests that help determine EQ and SQ scores, which can be beneficial for people considering career and education options.

Citing a lack of emotion, higher sex offender rates, and an inability to multitask, survey responders are much less likely to trust their children to a "manny" (male nanny). Gender stereotypes also play a large role in the careers people choose. "The responses pertaining to female nannies praised women as patient with children, terrific, having a natural connection, being more maternal, having excellent intuition, etc.," writes Katrina Boydon in her column, "Male versus Female Bias in the Childcare Debate," adding, "there were NO negative responses about female nannies." Anyone interested in their own EQ and SQ balance can take the personality quiz available on EQSQ.com (http://EQSQ.com/EQSQtest.php). The tests are scientifically developed to measure to what degree a person is a systemizer or an empathizer. Knowing one's EQ and SQ score can help people to understand how their career may be influenced by their behaviors and choices.

EQSQ.com centers on the Empathizing-Systemizing theory of the male versus the female brain types. The tests were developed by professor Simon Baron-Cohen and Sally Wheelwright at the University of Cambridge, England. Systemizers and empathizers can find information and resources for education, educational programs and career-choice.
