This announcement is part of BTR's regular goal to explore programming that is largely unnoticed by commercial radio. Its urban platform joins the ranks of more and more specialty shows added weekly, exploring exciting genres that listeners are striving to find. BTR also realizes the strength of quality DJs and its urban platform is no different - DJ Just Jay is joined by DJ RasCue, DJ Coop, and DJ Aaron from DAE Recordings. Not to mention the elaborate array of guest stars that will no doubt keep listeners coming back week after week.
"Expanding our programming is an important part of what BTR strives for," said Programming Director Maia Macdonald. "We aim to reach every niche and genre in independent music. With the inclusion of these new shows, we are the only station that is providing listeners with this much programming, on demand, all for free."
The following programming will kick off this week:
• Dancehall Riddims (Mondays)
With DJ RasCue being short for Rasta Cue Tip, it is no wonder dancehall is like second nature. With long dreads down to the middle of his back, after you hear the first few selections, you'll realize that dancehall runs through RasCue's veins. He plans to give you nothing but the best when it comes to the riddims. DJ RasCute is one half of the hip-hop group various blends, to being the DJ on tour with cali-agents, from The Third Rail on BTR, to being one of the busiest DJs in the bay area and beyond.
• The DownTime (Wednesdays)
The "DownTime" radio show brings the instrumental element to urban culture - the kind that makes your nod your head. Completely instrumental, it's hard to find anything like this show on BTR or any radio station at all. The show consists of a blend of down tempo, dub, instrumentals, triphop and more. "DownTime" will showcase exclusive material from producers, beatsmiths, artists from all over the globe such as: The Fruit Bat, Dj Epic, DNA, Just Jay, Hystarisis Loop and many many more. "DownTime" is hosted by seasoned DJ/Producer Dj CrushDelight. With his wide range of musical influences he will take you on nothing short of an instrumental trip.
• Electric Avenue (Thursdays)
Hosted by DJ Aaron of DAE Records, "Electric Avenue: will provide an underground house element that is unparalleled by any other current house show out there. The show will feature music that can be appreciated and enjoyed by everyone as well as "house heads" alike. It's like a nightclub that's filled with people, half of them are "in the know" and the other half are people not that versed in "house music culture". Regardless of their musical/industry knowledge, they are all "getting down" to the sounds being played. Featuring numerous top notch labels/artists such as Loveslap, Shifted Music, Look At You Records, Masters at Work, and more "Electric Avenue" features some of the most up front and in demand music in the industry. Thanks to DJ Aaron's finger on the pulse, listeners can rest assured there will be plenty of exclusive/unreleased material making it's first debut on the show.
• Hip-Hop Espanol (Fridays)
"Hip-hop Espanol" is a cutting edge show appealing to Latinos all over the globe, with rotating DJs from the Urban Umpire crew and beyond. The show brings listeners an exclusive insight into the community sounds from Brazil to Cuba, Puerto Rico and back to Spain. "Hip-Hop Espanol" showcases the best Latin hip-hop from various independent labels and unknown acts, keeping in sync with BTR's goal.
